Tebow seriously pisses me off. Almost as much as his belligerent uber-Christian fans.
-Jess

I’m sorry, but how in hell do you know what he is praying for? Have you ever thought that he possibly could be praying for the safety of himself, teammates or even opposing teammates?

“That was a huge play,” Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow said. Yes, there was the rookie linebacker making a clutch, overtime tackle of San Diego Chargers running back Mike Tolbert for a four-yard loss. The play forced the Chargers into a just-too-long 53-yard overtime field goal attempt that wound up off course.
Not that Tebow saw either play.
“I can’t say I saw too much of it,” Tebow said. “I was praying.”
Praying for a miss?
“I might have said that,” Tebow laughed. “Or maybe a block. Maybe all of it.”

I hesitate in writing a response to this, mainly because I don’t often post about my faith. I would hate to misrepresent any facet of my Christian faith (as so many do), and even further push people away from Christianity. But I see the above photo as an attack on my faith. One that I take seriously. So, I will defend it.
The idea that someone is not allowed or shouldn’t pray for something they want is unbased and just insulting. I’ve prayed for things that don’t matter in the long run. I’ve prayed that I win certain Bible Bowl games, I’ve prayed that I get A’s on certain tests I may not have studied enough for. Some of those prayers were answered the way I wanted them to. Other’s weren’t. But every time, God’s will was done, and I have to make peace with that. Why is that unchristian? Why is that “belittling legitimate suffering around the world?”
People don’t like Tebow because he makes you articulate your feelings about faith. Not just religious faith, but faith as a concept. And faith is scary. But I have faith that I pray to a God that can answer ANY prayer, not matter how big; but listens to EVERY prayer, no matter how small. Who are we to say what’s important? Who knows how the Bronco’s cinematic season has changed the world we live in? We can’t know, because this is the only reality we know.
If anything, I think continuing to pray for the trivial along with the things that “really matter” only vindicates my feelings for the power of God, that no matter what it is in my life or other’s lives, He cares. God listens to it all; touchdown passes to the saving of lives.
(Also, one smaller complaint: I can’t believe this photo originates on a blog called “stfu conservatives,” even though Tebow and prayer have nothing to do with conservatism. For all I know, Tebow’s a die-hard liberal.)

Sorry for stirring the pot so to speak, b/c that was really all I meant by it. I couldn’t care less about his “Tebowing,” I dislike him because he plays for Denver, and the amount of hype he has gotten for simply doing what other quarterbacks have been doing for years now. I was just being an asshole.

Oh no, my criticism isn’t of your comment (you just provided proof of a question raised above), it was of the photo. Dustin couldn’t do something to make me mad!! :-)
Well, he could.
And he has.
But not today.
